 | | OVENTROP VALVES THROUGHOUT NEW HOTEL STYLE TREATMENT CENTRE AT HINCHINGBROOKE
| | | Oventrop | | 29/09/2006 | | | The new Huntingdon NHS Treatment Centre at Hinchingbrooke Hospital has recently opened its doors to patients. More hotel-like in its design and specification than one would expect of a hospital, the new centre, comprising 8500 square metres of floor space over two storeys, has Oventrop valves throughout to regulate the heating and cooling systems.
To fulfil their contract to design, install and commission the mechanical and electrical services for the Treatment Centre, Dodd Group Eastern chose Oventrop valves exclusively. Dodd has used Oventrop equipment for many of its large projects and has been more than satisfied with the products' reliability and high quality. As well as these factors, Dodd greatly appreciate the back-up that is always available from the company and the positive attitude of Oventrop's sales engineers.
The Dodd contract was part of a PFI scheme by Prospect Healthcare in a joint venture between Kier Group and Innisfree. The £22 million state of the art facility offers shorter waiting times for planned operations and shorter hospital stays as 80% of the operations will be done as day surgery.
A new and fresh approach has been adopted for the Treatment Centre using large, open atriums with see-through roofs and yellow core steelwork creating a light and airy environment which enhances patients' feel-good factors. The Centre boasts seven operating theatres from daycentre to ultra clean. As well as a dental unit there is a woman's unit and numerous consulting and examination rooms and single and multi-bedded areas.
An extensive range of valves from Oventrop's standard offering were installed, typically isolating valves, double regulating valves, commissioning sets and a substantial number of TRV/lockshield valves together with all the valves for control and isolation of the three dual fuel gas/oil boilers and ancillary pumping equipment in the ground floor plantroom. Each boiler is rated at 500 of load with the installation providing a duty/standby arrangement for LPHW at 82°C flow and 71°C return. Two compensated heating circuits, zoned east and west serve radiant panel heating systems and LST radiators.
All the radiators are fitted with TRVs.
A boosted domestic hot water service generates water at 60°C and by controlling with mixing valves, basins, showers and baths will not exceed 41/43°C
In the roof top plantroom Oventrop equipment regulates heating and chilled water for the 15 air handling units which provide space heating and cooling within the Centre. Two air cooled condensers, each rated at 60% of the peak simultaneous cooling load and serving a pumped chilled water distribution system are located in an external plant compound at ground level.
A building management system controls all the mechanical installations, electrical lighting and meters all services for the Treatment Centre.
