Speedy Hire and Makita have announced a partnership with Women Builders, the building company that employs the largest female construction workforce in the UK, to promote skills and equality of opportunity for women in the construction industry.

The UK's number one tool and equipment hire firm and the UK's number one professional power tool manufacturer will assist Women Builders to provide employment-targeted training through funding and preferential access to their facilities and personnel.

The companies will also provide a range of work wear to the Milton Keynes based company, with Speedy providing discounts on all tool & equipment hire and service support. Makita will also provide a range of its latest power tools for use by the Women Builders training facility based in Bletchley.

In announcing the partnership, Peter Buchan, managing director for Speedy Hire (Eastern) said: 'Speedy Hire recognises the valuable role Women Builders plays in promoting equality and we are only too happy to support those wanting to further a career in the construction industry regardless of their gender or background.'

Andrew Helby, marketing manager, Makita UK said: 'As a responsible power tool manufacturer we are serious about the raising of construction trades skills and standards. Working side by side with our business partners, Speedy Hire, and our immediate neighbours, Women Builders, collectively we feel we will make a powerful impact. We look forward to their continued success, growth and expansion.'

Janet Shelley, managing director, Women Builders, said: 'There is increasing pressure to encourage more women into the construction industry and it is important that UK companies are recognised for supporting this equality.

'The team at Women Builders are particularly grateful for the contribution of top quality products and training facilities from both Speedy Hire and Makita which I know will add to our skills and professionalism and ensure we remain competitive.'
