 | | HEATING INSTALLER WINS ON THE TRACK WITH HONEYWELL SUPPORT | | | Brian Plimmer Plumbing & Heating Engineers | | 29/09/2006 | | | Heating installer Neil Plimmer and his driving partner Geoff Fawcett feature regularly on Sky Sports TV again this year as they race their Honeywell-supported car in the Uniroyal Fun Cup series.
'Team Honeywell' has had an excellent season to date, coming first in the races on 21st and 22nd May.
'2006 is the eighth consecutive year of our association with Honeywell, the leading environmental controls company,' says Neil, who runs Brian Plimmer Plumbing & Heating Engineers, based in Pontefract West Yorkshire. 'Honeywell backed us initially in National Formula Ford and continued its support when we switched to the Uniroyal Fun Cup in 2002.
'These are endurance races on major circuits including Silverstone and Brands Hatch, complete with pit stops, driver changes, refuelling and all the drama of Grand Prix,' explains Neil. 'But unlike Formula One, the races are totally the test of drivers' and pit crews' skills. All cars are built to a single specification with 130bhp VW/Audi engines.'
To ensure car performances are the same, the engines and gearboxes are sealed to prevent tampering and they use identical Uniroyal tyres.
'The cars may have VW Beetle-styled bodies, but that's where the similarity to a road car ends,' reveals Neil. 'They are real racing cars with a tubular chassis, GPR body, central driving position and mid-mounted engine with gearwheel drive.'
Fellow heating installers and plumbers are welcome to cheer Neil and Geoff at their races throughout the season.
