 | | BUILDERS CAN RELY ON TRADITIONAL CONSTRUCTION TO MEET BUILDING REGULATIONS
| | | Mark Insulations Group | | 27/09/2006 | | | Housebuilders have it in their control to help reduce the escalation of global warming. Since April 6, 2006, all new dwellings must comply with the revised Part L Building Regulations, which increase the energy efficiency of new dwellings by 20 per cent unless work had started prior to April 6, 2006. According to National Energy, SAP ratings for new build houses currently range from the mid 40s to over 100. In future, all new houses will have to achieve a genuine minimum standard of energy efficiency, based on the carbon emissions from that house.
For builders who prefer traditional construction, the Mark Insulations Group, as the UK's leading installer of insulation materials, offers a complete energy efficiency package to assist builders in complying with the new Regulations.
Retrofit mineral wool cavity wall insulation is a preferred method of insulating cavity walls with many of the national housebuilders, both for commercial reasons and to meet Building Regulations. Its use within the wall construction can achieve U-values as low as 0.27 W/m2K, dependent upon the cavity width and building block type combination. Retrofit mineral wool cavity wall insulation is recognised as offering commercial benefits over petrochemical-based retrofit systems. The resulting lower energy requirements make it possible to install smaller, cleaner heating systems. The retrofit blown cavity wall insulation can be installed once the roof is weathertight, making little or no effect on build programmes.
Builders are also recognising the benefits of timber frame construction, in terms of a reduction in production build programmes, leading to a quicker recovery of capital outlay. To meet the demand forecast, Mark Insulations offer a range of supply and fix mineral fibre insulation products manufactured specifically for use in timber framed construction. This is installed between studs and held in position with a vapour control layer stapled securely to the timber stud to produce U-values down to 0.27 W/m2K - in advance of the new Regulations. Loft insulation, warm roof insulation, draught proofing and heating services are also available as part of the package.
The Mark Insulations Group provides an insulation sub-contractor service to builders, developers and architects throughout England and Wales, via their eleven depots.
