Schneider Electric is set to take its first medium voltage motor starter on the road. A hectic schedule throughout September and October sees the latest high technology offering from Merlin Gerin, a brand of Schneider Electric, tour Britain to deliver live demonstrations of the powerful new motor controller to the doorsteps of major users.

The road show will introduce Motorpact, which is fitted with vacuum contactors for a broad range of motor sizes right up to a huge 4 megawatts at 7.2kV and is available as a pre-configured unit rather than a custom built panel. These features reduce costs and make both specification and installation much quicker and easier. The use of a line disconnector and multifunctional cast parts reduces the number of components and at the same time minimises heat loss.

Motorpact, also incorporates the latest Merlin Gerin Sepam electronic protection relays, as well as low power current transducers (LPCT) and Schneider Electric's Transparent Ready(tm) web browser technology for communications, monitoring and control.

Additional products at the road show will include other equipment such as motor starting and protection products like Merlin Gerin's GenieEvo medium voltage circuit breakers and Sepam protection relays. Low voltage motor starters and variable speed drives from the Telemecanique brand of Schneider Electric will also be displayed.

Schneider Electric's industry experts will be on hand during site visits and open-access days held at each location. Existing and potential customers, consultants, contractors and commissioning engineers will be able to view, use and get detailed information about each of the products and their potential benefits in the user's applications.

'We are looking forward to the road show,' says Nick Thompson, MV product manager at Schneider Electric. 'It will give customers a chance to see the equipment and explore its applications. We'll be able to answer technical questions on the spot and provide general information. The key thing is that visitors will really be able to judge the products for themselves'.
