The contract, worth £92 million over six years, has been awarded to Corus Living Solutions - the modular manufacturing division of Corus.
144 buildings will be erected on six sites. Each building will provide 36 single living units in a three-storey design. Each unit will be built on the new production line at Corus' Shotton works. The production facility at Shotton is the most advanced of its type in the UK and Corus has secured a unique opportunity to mass- produce modular buildings that meet the exacting Ministry of Defence standards. The finished product is traditional in appearance yet built, as far as possible, using modern methods of construction. The 'cuboid' formed by the erected room modules will have a traditional roof and a variety of exterior brick and render finishes.
Buildoffsite Chairman, Richard Ogden said: 'Increasingly, clients are opting for offsite solutions and realising the benefits of better value for money, faster build times, reductions in waste, energy and CO2 emissions and the greater predictability and right first time quality that can be achieved through modern methods of construction.'
These options will become even more attractive as the market for off-site solutions expands and a step-change in levels of productivity can be achieved.'
