 | | HIGH STREET APPEAL FROM FORTICRETE CAST STONE | | | Forticrete | | 11/10/2007 | | | Close collaboration between Cast Stone manufacturer Forticrete, contractor Dean and Dyball Construction and Trinity Architecture has provided a cost-effective, practical solution to an impressive new mixed use development in a prominent location in Bournemouth.
The use of a combination of bespoke and standard cast stone products has given the C&A redevelopment in Bournemouth the impact and visual appeal necessary for a prime site on the town’s busy high street at an affordable cost.
The project incorporates shops, offices and residential units as well as affordable social housing. The main architectural features of the retail development are a turret placed above the main entrance and a system of tiers and pillars that lend a prestigious character to the high street elevation.
The main retail units feature Cast Stone columns to level three, topped off with parapets which run the width of the frontage. This theme is continued on two further tiers which again feature columns to heights of three storeys, with parapets at intermediate and top levels.
Brick is interspersed with Cast Stone on the Tregonwell Road elevation to the left of the turret which contrasts with the tiered Commercial Road elevation.
The rear of the development features cast stone window surrounds, heads, cills and parapets to provide continuity in design.
Forticrete’s project management team, working with Dean and Dyball and Trinity Architecture, has been closely involved with the development from its inception enabling it to ‘value engineer’ the project, rationalising many designs and providing the most practical and economical cast stone solutions.
The developer is Charles Church Developments Limited, Dean and Dyball Construction is the design and build contractor and Trinity Architecture is the practice responsible for the design. | |
