RUNABOUTS HELPING CONTRACTORS FLY HIGH AT HEATHROW

Nationwide Access Buy 20 More GR15s For T5
Nationwide Access is helping electrical and mechanical contractors get into some tight spaces at the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport by investing in the purchase of 20 additional GR15 Genie Runabouts.
The hire company has already supplied more than 70 scissor lifts to AMEC, the international project management and services company, the main mechanical and electrical contractor at the site. But as more building work is completed, reaching tight spaces in roof areas using scissor lifts was proving a challenge as existing piping and ducting were restricting access.
The solution is the Genie GR15 Runabout, which has a telescopic vertical mast with a small cage making it ideal for this application. The cage is less than one metre square, so it will squeeze between the piping yet still provide enough room for a contractor and tools. Nationwide Access is due to deliver 20 of the Runabouts to Terminal 5 in March and they are expected to be on site for the best part of a year.
''The Runabouts give you the same working height as the scissor lifts,' explained Scott McCall, marketing manager at Nationwide Access, 'but they have a very small cage so you can get up into the roof spaces. They are also half the weight of a scissor lift, which is handy when they have to work on temporary flooring.'
The stowed height of the GR15 Runabout is only 1.57m and the chassis is 0.7m wide and 1.35m long. Working height is 6.47m.
